County Line Raceway
Race Recap June 16
After an extremely beautiful day with gorgeous blue skies and a bright shining sun, drivers, fans, crews and staff came out to County Line Raceway for a wonderful night of racing. On tap for tonight, the Nashville Feed Super Stock 4's, ARCO Restoration Pure Stock 4's, P.L. Woodard Pure Stock V8's, Barnes Equipment Late Model's & for the Thunder In The Pines $1200 to win event, the DRU, Inc. Open Wheel Modifieds.
Brandon Medlin & Dustin O'Neal would start the first feature of the night, the Nashville Feed Super Stock 4's. After several attempts at a clean, green flag start, Eddy Pollard finally gave his final warning and these guys were able to get a green flag lap. Cautions would plague this race from the beginning, with a several cautions occurring within the first 5 laps. Dustin O'Neal would take the lead early followed by Tyler Vaughn, Eric hill, John Proctor and Brain Medlin. John Proctor's night would end early when he got caught up in an incident in turn 4. Dustin O'Neal would maintain about a 4 car length lead over 2nd place Vaughn as the laps wound down, stretching it to at least 10 car lengths as they came to the white flag. Bringing home his 2nd win of the 2012 season, Dustin O'Neal. He was followed by Tyler Vaughn, Dakota Whitley, Eric Hill and Johnny Edwards. After post race inspection, the car driven by Tyler Vaughn was deemed illegal and therefore disqualified moving Dakota Whitley to second, Eric Hill to third and Johnny Edwards to fourth.
Our next feature, the P.L. Woodard Pure Stock V8 with Jerry Williams and Gary Whitley on the front row. A couple quick cautions would pause this 15 lap feature early, but as they went back green after the 2 quick cleanups, Gary Whitley would lead the field. Jerry Williams would ride in 2nd, Spencer Whitley, Roy Hall and Dwayne Whitley. The 3rd place car, Spencer Whitley, would slow drastically coming out of 3 as Anthony Silveri would bring out the caution with a spin in turn 2. After quick response by the track wrecker staff, we were back green with Whitley out front of Williams, Hall, Harrell and Dwayne Whitley. Roy Hall & Dwayne Whitley would get together in turn 2, bringing out the caution but the track would be cleared with haste and we were back green. Gary Whitely remained in the top spot, Williams battling Harrell for 2nd spot, Bryce Pearson battling Spencer Whitley for 5th. A piece of Dwayne Whitley's car would fall off in turn 1 bringing out the caution, and as Glenn Upchurch removed it quickly, we were down to a green, white, checkers. Spencer Whitley would slow again down the front stretch coming to a stop as the checkers flew over Gary Whitley, Tony Harrell, Jerry Williams, Bryce Pearson & Dwayne Whitley.
The special event, The Thunder In The Pines 25 lap, $1200 to win DRU, Inc Open Wheel Modified division powered onto the track with Kyle Strickler & Chris Parker on the front row. Russell Erwin would battle it out with Kyle Strickler to take over the top spot, Chris Parker rode in 3rd, Roger Lucas and Greg Brown rounded out the top 5. Ricky Wainwright would bring out the first caution as he slowed on the front stretch on lap 8, and as he was assisted off the track, we would go back green. Russell would lead Strickler as we came to the half way mark, putting a couple car lengths distance between the 2. Warren Lipford would bring out the caution on lap 17 with a solo spin in turn 4. Back green, Erwin out front, Strickler trying his best to make the pass, can't do it on the restart. Strickler looking inside, can't make it. Erwin goes into overdrive as the laps wound down, putting several car lengths between the two. Russell Erwin would bring home the win followed by Kyle Strickler, Chris Parker, Roger Lucas & Greg Brown.
The ARCO Restoration Pure Stock 4 division lined up outside of turn 4 with Thomas Holbrook & Michael Webb starting on the front row. Michael Webb would take the point quickly followed by Brian Andrews, Brent Atkinson, Thomas Holbrook and Cody Keith. Michael Webb would dominate this race, leading up until lap 10 when his motor let go in a humongous poof of smoke. Brian Andrews, last week's winner, would inherit the lead. Brent Atkinson held on to 2nd spot followed by Thomas Holbrook, Cody Keith and Chris Collins. Brian Andrews looked as though he was on cruise control as he crossed the stripe with 2 to go, but the caution would come out when the 98 of Aaron Reynolds & 99 of David Haggans got together in turn 1. Coming to the green, white, checker, Brian Andrews leads Brent Atkinson, Thomas Holbrook, Cody Keith and Chris Collins, who was fighting off the challenge by JP Brantley. Brian Andrews would bring home the win, his 2nd in a row, followed by Brent Atkinson, Thomas Holbrook, Cody Keith and Chris Collins.
Our final feature of the night, the Barnes Equipment Late Models would come out with Travis Hair on the pole and Cy Nelms, Sr on the outside. Unfortunately, Travis would lose a motor on the warm up lap, moving Dustin Mitchell up to the top spot. Dustin Mitchell would take the top spot coming out of turn 2 in front of Nelms, Erwin, Sykes & Batten. Trevor Peoples would get out of shape in turn 4 bringing out the first caution, but we were quickly back green. Mitchell lead the field to green, but as the tail of the field came out of 3, they got bunched up with JP Cascell taking the worst of the damage. Green with 2 in the books, Mitchell leading Nelms, Batten, Erwin & Sykes. Nelms would mount a challenge on Mitchell but couldn't get around him. Gary Dillon would bring out the caution for a spin in 3 on lap 4. Gary would rejoin the tail of the field and we were back green. Erwin would get around Nelms for the 2nd spot as Neal Sykes tried to work his way around Nelms. Christian Joyner would get around James Batten for the 5th spot, bringing Bobby Bottoms with him. Erwin would try to gain ground on Mitchell, reeling him in as the caution came out for Bobby Bottoms, who spun in turn 4 on lap 20. Back green, and Gary Dillon would take a wild ride as he spun in turn 4, ending up on the berm amidst a cloud of dust. Green again, Mitchell leading Erwin, Nelms, who got passed by Sykes for 3rd, Christian Joyner got around him also for the 4th spot. Mitchell would catch the tail end of the field as Erwin tried to catch up with him. Skeeter Liles would bring out the caution on lap 20 as he slowed out of 4 and was taken to the pit area. Mitchell leads the field to the green, Erwin trying to get up to him, can't do it. Neal Sykes in 3rd, Christian Joyner in 4th, Cy Nelms, Sr in 5th. James Batten would bring out the caution on lap 25 when his axle broke and he hit the wall pretty hard in turn 1. After assistance from the fire dept, and track wrecker drivers, James Batten's 21 ride was removed from the track and we were back green with 5 to go. Mitchell leads Erwin, Sykes, Joyner and Nelms to the line. Dustin Mitchell would bring home the win followed by Russell Erwin, Neal Sykes, Christian Joyner and Cy Nelms.
