County Line Raceway
Race Recap July 21
The ARCO Restoration Pure Stock Four Cylinders were up next for their two heat races. Brent Atkinson lead the first of the two heats to green. Only one caution would slow the field. Brent Atkinson would take the win and the pole for the feature. He was followed by Michael Webb, George Cummings, Chris Collins, and Jamie Sills rounding out the top five. The second heat would see John Killebrew and Jeremy Benson on the front row. Benson would jump out to the lead on lap one and never look back. Benson took the win and the outside pole for the feature. Thomas Holbrook took second. Cody Keith, Gary Whitley, and JP Brantley rounded out the top 5.
Next out on the track was the Rapid Red Racing Supply Thunder & Lightning division. With the $1,000 prize up for grabs the drivers would get their time to shine under qualifying conditions. Group qualifying seeing four cars on the track at a time would see Michael Batten set fast time. Cy Nelms Jr, Luke Owens and Eddie Woodruff rounded out the top 4. The top 4 were required to pull a pill to determine their starting position. Cy Nelms Jr drew the pole, Luke Owens second, Michael Batten third, and Eddie Woodruff fourth.
The Barnes Equipment Late Models took to the track in a qualifying format to set the starting order for their first of two feature races. Ray Tucker set fast time with a time of 15.022. Travis Hair set himself on the outside pole with a time of 15.151. Dustin Mitchell, Gary Dillon and Russell Erwin rounded out the top 5.
The first feature, the Nashville Feed Super Stock 4 division with Bill Winstead and Dustin O'Neal on the front row. Winstead would take command of the top spot quickly with O'Neal in 2nd followed by John Proctor, Dakota Whitley and Brad Hamm. Proctor started peaking under O'Neal trying in vain to get around him for the 2nd spot, finally getting around him on lap 6. The caution would come out on lap 7 for a car slowing in turn 1. Back green with Winstead leading Proctor. Proctor would close the gap out of turn 4 on Winstead beginning that battle for the lead. Whitley was all on the bumper of the 4 of O'Neal for 3rd spot while Brad Hamm was in the 5th spot. Eric Hill would bring out the caution on lap 10, and after he was assisted off the track, we were back green with 10 to go. Winstead continued to hold off Proctor as O'Neal closed in on him. Whitley would get around O'Neal for 3rd with 5 to go as Brad Hamm tried to work his way around him. Back up front, Winstead put a car length between him and Proctor as Whitely stuck his bumper under Proctor for 2nd but couldn't complete the pass. As they crossed the line at the checkers it would be Bill Winstead, John Proctor, Dakota Whitely, Dustin O'Neal and Brad Hamm.
Next up the Barnes Equipment Late Models rolled onto the track, but unfortunately as they began their parade laps, a heavy rainband would cross the track. Officials pulled the cars off for a rain delay but it would drop too much rain in too little time. Officials were forced to call the event and rework the schedule for next weekend. For the second weekend in a row, Mother Nature has taken the final checkerd flag of the night at County Line.
Please hang on to your arm bands for entry into next week's event. Due to the rainout from Saturday, July 21, 2012 the schedule has been changed for July 28. Armbands are only good for July 28 ONLY. No armbands will be honored after this date. The Barnes Equipment Late Model division will return running their Twin 20s. The Twin 20's will now be $1,300 to win in each! The Rapid Red Racing Supply Thunder & Lightning will be running for $1000 to win plus bonus money of $250. ARCO Restoration Pure Stock Four Cylinders will be running their special, as scheduled for $400 going to the winner. DRU Inc Modifieds will also be on the schedule, along with the PL Woodard Pure Stock V8 division. Late Model, Thunder & Lightning are locked in from their qualifying on July 21. Any new cars will start at the rear of the feature. PS4 will group qualify to set their feature.PL Woodard Pure Stock V-8 will run their heat races and DRU Inc Modifieds will qualify. We are sorry for any inconvenience the recent rainouts have caused. We make every attempt to get the shows in as scheduled but the weather is beyond our control. We hope to see everyone Saturday for another action packed night of racing action!
