Mother Nature has not been cooperative the past couple of weeks, last night included, which is why we are racing for only the 2nd time on a Sunday. With a full schedule, including the Middlesex Family Dental Super Stock 4, PlayTyme Concessions Pure Stock 4 twins for $250 each to win, PL Woodard Pure Stock V8 twins for $250, ARCO Restoration Thunder & Lightning and the Barnes Equipment Late Models.
Up first, the always exciting Middlesex Family Dental Super Stock 4 with William Carroll and Eric Hill on the front row. A 2 car crash would slow this field as Austin Larrison & Curtis Keith got together on the backstretch bringing out the caution before lap 1 was completed. After lining up again for a double file restart, William Carrol jumped out front out of turn 2 with Eric Hill and John Proctor beating and hanging for the 2nd spot. Austin Holcombe held onto 4th spot while Jesse Duke rounded out the top 5. Three wide for the lead would see Carroll, Proctor and Holcombe battling for that top spot. John Proctor would get around Carroll for the lead as Holcombe got around Carroll for 2nd. Eric Hill held onto 4th, Jesse Duke in 5th. Lap 14 would see Austin Holcombe experience mechanical issues, as smoke filed from the rear of his car, and under the caution we would see the points leader & leader of this race John Proctor go into the pits with some kind of issue as well. This would shake up the top 5, as William Carroll took the lead followed by Eric Hill, Jesse Duke, Jamie Bailey & Bill Winstead. Back green with 6 laps to go. Eric Hill would challenge for the top spot by going to the bottom. Carroll was not willing to give it up, so they were door to door for a few laps until Hill charged a little to hard and spun in turn 4. William Carroll held onto the lead followed by Jesse Duke, Jamie Bailey, Bill Winstead and Brandon Whitley. As the laps wound down, the top 5 we so close, you could've thrown a blanket over them! As the checkers fell, William Carroll would bring home the win followed by Jesse Duke, Jamie Bailey, Bill Winstead & Brandon Whitley. Excellent racing in this class for sure!
Our second feature of the night, the PlayTyme Concessions Twin #1 would see Gary Dillon & Michael Webb on the front row. Lap 1 would see the 00 of Dennis Deaver and the 6 of Tyler Hobgood would get together on the back stretch bringing out the caution. Back green with Gary Dillon leading Michael Webb, Thomas Holbrooke,JP Brantley and Cody Keith rounding out the top 5. Two more quick cautions would slow this 10 lap feature, but Gary Dillon managed to maintain the lead over Michael Webb. Lap 7 would see 3 cars involved in a wreck over in between turns 1 and 2 as Michelle Edmondson, Daniel Hill and Cooper Edwards would get together, with Edwards actually jumping over the top of one of the stopped cars. Lap 4 would see a skirmish between the leader and second place giving Kevin Beard the advantage on the high side, even though he rode the wall a couple of feet. Dwayne Whitley would fall back through the field as Kevin Beard took the lead. Whew! Folks in the stands were on their feet at that!! Two cars got together on the backstretch on lap 5 bringing out the first caution of the night. Back green with Kevin Beard leading Gary Whitley, Carly Fulghum, Wade Ferrell and Jerry Williams. Our 4th feature of the night, the ARCO Restoration Thunder & Lightning division would have Lane Proctor and Skeeter Liles on the front row for this 20 lap feature. Lap 2 would see a big mess in turn 2 when Cy Nelms Jr. slowed going into turn 1 causing Luke Owens to spin to avoid clobbering him after that, it was madness! The 69 of Chris Radford, 56 of James Cascell, 44 of Scott Baines, 59 of Johnnie Edmondson and the 84 of Mark McDaniels were all collected in the turn 1 wall in a heap of sheet metal. Luckily it appears all drivers were ok even though there were a lot of torn up race cars. Back green with Skeeter Liles leading Lane Proctor, Buddy Isles, Jr, Mark Boykin and Matthew Bissette. Lap 8 would see another caution when Matthew Bissette spun off of turn 4. Quickly back green, Skeeter Liles still leading Lane Proctor, Buddy Isles, Jr., Mark Boykin and Brad Hamm. Debris from one of the previously wrecked cars would bring out the caution just as the leader would get spun out of 2. Liles would retire to the pits giving Lane Proctor the lead. Buddy Isles, Jr held onto 2nd place, Mark Boykin 3rd, Luke Owens who recovered from an earlier spin was 4th and Brad Hamm rounded out the top 5. Lane Proctor would bring home the win followed by Buddy Isles, Jr., Mark Boykin, Luke Owens and Cy Nelms, Jr. Great recovery for Luke Owens & Cy Nelms, Jr. after being involved in the earlier mess over in turn 1. Great racing through the field the entire race!
The PlayTyme Concessions Pure Stock 4 were ready for their 2nd race of the night with JP Brantley and Brent Atkinson on the front row. Brent Atkinson would take the point off of turn 1 followed by Thomas Holbrooke, Cody Keith, Michael Webb and JP Brantley. Two cars would get hooked together in turn 3 bringing out the caution, and after they were separated, we were back green with no change to the top 5. Gary Dillon challenge JP Brantley for the 5th spot, taking it as he moved up to challenge Webb for 4th. Thomas Holbrooke was trying to hold off Webb as Gary Dillon continued to put pressure on Webb. Dillon would get around both Webb & Holbrooke to take over 3rd place. Cody Keith would dive into turn 2 and take out the leader on lap 6 bringing out the caution giving Gary Dillon the lead! Brent Atkinson would spin to avoid a 2 car spin in turn 4 bringing out the caution, but thanks to a quick reaction time by track staff, we were quickly back green flag racing. Gary Dillon would lead the remaining laps, bringing home his 2nd win of the night. He was followed by Thomas Holbrooke, Michael Webb, JP Brantley and Brandon Edmondson. This is an unofficial top 5 as the winner was being protested at the time of this writing.
The always popular Barnes Equipment Late Models lined up with Russell Erwin on the pole with Christian Joyner on the outside pole. The first lap would prove scarey as 3 cars got tangled together causing one car to flip over & land on another! Russell Jones red number 26 Late Model would roll over on top of Randy Lucas. Luckily, both drivers were ok. This would set up for a complete double file start. Russell Erwin took the lead out of turn 2 followed by Christian Joyner, Dustin Mitchell, Roger Lucas and Travis Hair. Carlton Toney would spin on the front stretch bringing out the 2nd caution on lap 2. Back green with Erwin leading Mitchell, Joyner, Lucas and Hair. The top 3 completely drove away from the rest of the field as they battled for the top spot. Mitchell would challenge Erwin on several different occasions for the lead as Christian Joyner stay tight on Mitchell's bumper. Dykes Maynard would bring out the caution for a solo spin off of turn 4 on lap 17, giving Mitchell and Joyner the opportunity to take advantage of the restart. Erwin lead them to the green putting about 2 car lengths between him and Mitchell. Joyner battled hard in 3rd spot as Roger Lucas and Travis Hair raced for 4th respectively. Michael Batten, Bobby Bottoms and Britches Liles rounded out the final cars on the lead lap. Our final feature of the night, the 2nd PL Woodard twin with Carly Fulghum & Kevin Beard on the front row. Lap 1 would see 3 cars get together bringing out the caution. Another double file start would see the drivers 3 wide at the line as they completed lap 1, but it would be Carly Fulghum out front. Kevin Beard, Gary Whitely, Jerry Williams and Wade Ferrell were nose to tail battling hard when Williams and Whitley would get together causing Whitley to spin going into the apex of turn 1. With both cars relegated to the rear, Kevin Beard maintained 2nd moving Wade Ferrell to 3rd, Archie Whitley & Roy Hall taking over 4th and 5th. Carly Fulghum would grenade her motor coming out of turn 2, with smoke billowing from the car as Kevin Beard & Wade Ferrell were collected in the wreck. Kevin Beard was able to continue but Wade Ferrell was not. Back green with Beard leading but Jerry Williams waned that top spot bad. Gary Whitley joined the mix as the 3 cars battled it out. At the white flag we would see Kevin Beard leading with Jerry Williams in 2nd, Gary Whitley in 3rd.
