Casey Roberts Becomes First Late Model Back to Back Race for the Kids Champion

The final day of the 6th Annual Race for the Kids benefiting Victory Junction Gang has arrived. The temperatures may be cold but the racing on the track is going to heat up the night.  Racing includes the Ultimate Super Late Model Series going 50 laps with a $10,000 paycheck going to the winner, Open Wheel Modifieds racing 40 laps with a $5,000 first place prize, twin 15 lap features for the Bell & Bell Vintage Modified Series.  The night will conclude with a Crash for the Kids, featuring the Walking Tall monster truck and for the first time at County Line Raceway a compact demolition derby.

The evening would kick off with the first of two features for the Bell & Bell Vintage Modified Series.  Side by side racing for the lead would be the normal during the scheduled 15 lap feature.  Time would run out on the feature after a car flipped on the back stretch on lap 11.  Jeremy Cumbee would be flagged the winner.  Cameron Norris IV would finish second followed by Cameron Norris III in third.
Our 2nd event of the night the Open Wheel Modifieds 40 lap feature. KC Burdette and Matt Quade would lead this 24 car field to the green. Burdette would get out to a great start, Matt Quade about 4 car lengths back, Chris Parker, Russell Erwin and Shon Flannery rounded out the top 5. By lap 5, the leader was catching the tail of the field. Lot of slicing and dicing going on with these guys, as Taylor Cook worked his way up to 5th spot, as Quade began to close in on the leader Burdette. With Lap traffic an issue, could Quade get around to take the top spot? As we reached half way, Quade had lost a little ground giving Burdette room. Side by side in turn 3 for the lead, Parker sneaking up in to the mix, Erwin not far back, and Cook up there too. At this point, anyone in the top 5 could take this race. Burdette gets sideways out of 4, collects it but Tyler Evans got around and collected Chris Parker who was running 3rd. Back green with Burdette, Quade, Cook & Derrick Ramey. Big mess over in turn 4 when Max McLaughlin slid into Derrick Ramey who collected Taylor Cook. McLaughln continued on but Ramey & Cooke were victims that needed to be towed to the pits. Back green with Burdette leading Quade, Erwin, David Stremme and Max McLaughlin. First time to the track & KC Burdette brings home the $5000 check! He was followed by Matt Quade, Russell Erwin, David Stremme & Max McLaughlin.
The Bell & Bell Vintage Modified Series would return for their final event of 2014.  Eleven cars would take the green flag.  There was hard, clean racing for the 15 lap feature.  Cameron Norris III would pick up the extra two positions for feature number one to bring home the win.  Cameron Norris IV would finish second followed by Jeremy Cumbee in third.
Chris Ferguson would lead this 24 car field to the green. Ferguson would get out front quick followed by Casey Barrow, Dennis Franklin, Russell Erwin and Jeff Smith. Lap 1 would see a big wreck turn 4 involving Christian Joyner who spun, collecting Chris Garnes, Jason Covert & Doug Eck. Back green with Casey Roberts taking the lead quick over Ferguson who was trying to hold off Erwin but couldn't do it & would give up the 2nd spot. Dennis "Rambo" Franklin & Casey Barrow would round out the top 5. Single file by lap 6 and the leader Roberts was catching the tail of the field and began lapping cars. Caution lap 8 for a slow car on the backstretch. With a Dixie Double file restart, Casey Roberts would lead the field to the green. Russell Erwin held tight to 2nd spot followed by Chris Ferguson, Rambo & Casey Barrow were putting on a great show for 4th spot running side by side. Rambo would hold on to 4th spot and as they came off turn 4, Barrow would slip just a bit giving enough room for Dustin Mitchell to sneak into the top 5. Spin in front of the leader! Derrick Francis would spin over in turn 4 causing Casey Roberts to make some contact,, Russell Erwin would get into Willie Milliken who had spun. Everyone was moved back to their respective spot per the Ultimate Super Late Model rule. Back green with Roberts leading Erwin, Ferguson, Mitchell & Rambo. Halfway with no change in the top 5, although Dan Stone got up in the mix and was trying move into the top 5. Rambo shut him down holding on to that 5th spot. Lap 43 and Roberts maintained a straightaway lead over Erwin. The battle was on for the 3rd spot as Ferguson tried to hold off Mitchell & Rambo. Mitchell would take over the spot as Ferguson held off Rambo but as the double flags fell showing 2 to go, Rambo would take over 4th spot. Casey Roberts would bring home the win for the 2nd year in a row!
Then it was time for a night of destruction.  The Walking Tall Monster Truck made his second appearance to County Line Raceway and then it was another first for the track as they hosted a compact demolition derby.  26 cars entered the event that lasted nearly an hour!
The 2014 season has come to an end on the racing side.  The next event for CLR is its Annual Awards Banquet on December 13.  Tickets are available by contacting Brenda at 252-442-6616 or by email at brenda@countylineracewaync.com.  The 2015 season will kick off with the return of both the Ultimate Super Late Model Series and the Open Wheel Modifieds on March 21, 2015.  We hope everyone has a safe and wonderful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.  We hope to see everyone soon!

The Management and Staff of County Line Raceway would like to express their gratitude for all of the fans, drivers, and crew who have supported them during the 2014 racing season.
